Baldawala, a pillar
Bejon Baldawala who passed away on October 6, 2003 played a pivotal role as the co-chairman of the Save Udvada Trust (SUT). He was mainly instrumental in getting the Trust registered, maintaining the accounts, corresponding with the government officers, engineers, donors and looking after every little detail like income-tax matters, supervision of plaques of inauguration of sea-walls, etc.
His methodical, prompt style of functioning coupled with his genial, jovial nature endeared him to all those who came in his contact. Baldawala’s generosity was exemplary. He laid the doors of his spacious office open for the secretarial work of the SUT, providing stationery, typing, xeroxing and other facilities at his own cost.
He was a versatile person. After doing his postgraduation in Gujarati literature, he became an advocate. He also possessed good knowledge of pharmacology, ayurveda and medicinal plants.
Baldawala leaves behind him his devoted wife Dhun who is rendering yeoman service in the field of conservation of energy, son Naozer, a well-known chemical and corrosion engineer, and daughter Dr Tanaz, settled in USA.
