Mhow dakhma cleaned

A six-member team from Bombay spent three days from January 3-6, 2003 to clean the dakhma in Mhow which had been last cleared nearly 20 years ago. The Parsi Zoroastrian Anjuman of Mhow president Behram Masani was grateful to Cyrus J. Siganporia, Zubin S. Mistry, Urmez R. Ghadiali, Sarosh H. Irani, Kersi B. Bavan and Kurus A. Bastani for doing "an excellent and laudable job...(taking) time off from their busy schedule to volunteer for such work." Siganporia works as a consultant at Doongerwadi, Bastani and Mistry are self-employed, Irani works as a technician with Godrej and Boyce, and Bavan with D. B. C. Sons. Ghadiali, the youngest, is a college student. Depending on their professional commitments, some, from their regular team of nearly 25 volunteers, offer to clean the dakhmas in keeping with prescribed religious requirements, convinced that they are "the chosen ones" and not doing any "dalindar (inauspicious) work," explains Siganporia. Over the years they have cleaned dakhmas at Bombay, Poona, Navsari, Bangalore, Indore and Mhow.
