Role models
At the function to felicitate Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Soli Sorabjee and Tehmtan Andhyarujina on April 20, I was particularly impressed by Andh-yarujina’s speech — not because it was witty, but because of the inspiring message it carried for the youth of our community.

Andhyarujina: family bonds
That his father, to whom he acknowledged his success could become a leading lawyer, although the son of a priest in
Udvada, by dint of his burning ambition and hard work, is something that should inspire our youth. Tehmtan and his siblings who have all distinguished themselves in their own fields, have proved what one can do if provided the right role model. As a Tata employee, I have heard the story of one of them — Khorshed Javeri — who was the first lady to be selected for the Tata Administrative Service (TAS). The selection committee had decided to reject her because of her sex but were ashamed to do so when confronted with her brilliant academic record. Thus started the trend of ladies in TAS.
Our community cannot fail to make its mark as long as we have families like these.
