The B.D. Petit Parsee General Hospital press release dated 18.3.2015
PRESS RELEASE dated 18.3.2015
For more than a century now, the B.D. Petit Parsee General Hospital ("PGH”) has been serving the poor and underprivileged sections of the Parsi Zoroastrian community. More than 50% of the beds in PGH serve the underprivileged members of the community free or at highly subsidized rates which includes the cost of expensive and sophisticated medical diagnostic services which are outsourced and not currently available in PGH.
Regrettably, it has been evident for some time that the rising cost of medical services and the need to keep up with advances in medical technology has put a heavy strain on PGH's financial resources making it virtually impossible for the management to continue providing the necessary level of diagnostic and medical care for the much needed "absolutely free” or subsidized section of the hospital's Parsi Zoroastrian patients.
The Management Committee of PGH has therefore, decided to build a separate (approx.) 200 bed multi-disciplinary hospital for secular user without any discrimination of caste, creed or religion. This "state-of-the-art” hospital will serve the underprivileged as well as other cosmopolitan population of Mumbai and its surrounding areas.
Upon the new hospital becoming functional, the underprivileged sections of the Parsi Zoroastrian community will be able to avail of the "state-of-the-art” diagnostic facilities at affordable prices on the campus of the PGH itself.
The management of the PGH has been fortunate to find a caring and generous donor in Jal & Pervin Shroff of Hong Kong who have agreed to contribute a sum of US$ 20 million towards the cost of setting up the new hospital plus an additional US$ 2.5 million specifically earmarked for the oncology department. One of the conditions attached to this grant is that the donors will have the exclusive right to name the new hospital Building and the oncology department. The name of the New Hospital Building will also include a reference to The B.D. Petit Parsee General Hospital. The amount of US$ 22.5 Million (about Indian Rs.135 crores based on the present rate of exchange) will be distributed by the donors in a timely manner on achievement of agreed milestones.
The necessary agreements for the commencement of this project were executed today. The New Hospital shall be operated and managed by the Dr. Ardeshir Jehangirshaw Kohiyar Memorial Trust (hereinafter referred to as "the Trust”). It has also been agreed that Mr. Bomi J. Shroff and Mr. Berjis Desai shall be appointed as Trustees of the Trust as the representatives of the donors.
Technecon Healthcare Private Limited who have prepared a Financial Feasibility Report and a Market Analysis Report in March 2014 for the above project have been appointed project consultants.
Somaya and Kalappa Pvt. Ltd., Consultants, renowned architects have been engaged as the architects for the project.
