Look who's cantered in

3 January 2017

"We wanted a real horse, not an artist's impression of a horse," Maneck Davar told Parsiana at the unveiling of the Spirit of Kala Ghoda today.

Thrown open by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis late evening today, the figure of the black horse was executed by sculptor Shreehari Bhosle, with mentorship provided by Arzan Khambatta. Designs for the statue were prepared by Alfaz Miller. The statue brings back to the eponymous South Bombay district the landmark it lost in the 1960s, albeit in a non-colonial form.

This the first of three projects undertaken by the Kala Ghoda Association under Davar's chairmanship. Watch out for details of the next two projects as they are unveiled, and a detailed report a forthcoming issue
