Birth figures - 2015

The Parsi community birth figures for 2015 released by the Bombay Municipal Corporation show a drop of 17 births compared to the previous year.

Last year’s figure for Bombay was 191 of which 106 were female and 85 male, states an email from Bombay Parsi Punchayet chief executive officer Cawas Panthaki. In 2014 the figure was 208, (103 female and 105 male). In 2013 the figure had dropped to 174 (77 girls and 97 boys) and in 2012 the figure was 201 (102 girls and 99 boys). The average for the four years works out to 193.5 (774/4). The total number of female births in the last four years were 388 as compared to 386 male births, indicating a healthy sex ratio.

Despite efforts by various community organizations and even the Government of India to improve the fertility rate, no improvement is reflected in the official figures.
