Nagpur agiary’s salgirah

By Farrokh Jijina · November 21-December 6, 2022
At the four days of celebration to mark the 127th salgirah of Nagpur’s Hirabai Mullan Dar-e-Mehr, a posthumous life time achievement award was conferred on bonesetter Homi Wadia who "served thousands in his life time… many poor people free of cost… all Parsis always free of cost… He would help everyone to get hassle free admission to hospitals when needed… A simple selfless man,” noted honorary secretary of the Nagpur Parsi Gymkhana (NPG) and editor of their magazine bawabuzz Khurshid Dalal. Her vote of thanks was followed by a sumptuous dinner. The programs from October 1-4, 2022, were held at their Dharamshala.

In "Proud to be a Parsi... a fancy dress competition with a twist,” the young and old dressed up like famous Parsi personalities. "Quiz Spectacular” was "an absolute riot” which tested everything from memory to acting skills to logic. Fathers took over the task of styling their children’s hair on the next day "while the ladies cooked up delectable dishes from surprise ingredients from a mystery box” à la the television series Master Chef. The evening was dedicated to dance performances from Bollywood through the decades. "From 10 to 55 years, everyone participated with great enthusiasm,” noted Dalal. "Kya scene hai Boss” was a competition where iconic scenes from Bollywood were enacted with a Parsi twist.
The third day was devoted to the prize distribution for the Dadi Balsara Indoor Sports Tournament held in September. "This was followed by dhamaal-masti with teams competing in very creative games,” titled "Ramva Chaloji,” noted Dalal.
Day four, October 4, salgirah day, was observed with a jashan in the morning led by head priest Ervad Percy Panthaky, and a maachi in the evening. This was followed by prizes for academia, service and "lots of competitions, performances… (It was) well appreciated…well attended…What was most heartening was that all committee members pitched in to make it a success,” Dalal said.
Awards and prizes on different days were presented by Nagpur Parsi Panchayat (NPP) president Aspi Bapuna and his wife Mehru, NPP secretary Navroz Davar, NPG president Tauby Bhagwagar, NPG vice president Meheroo Watchmaker and Dalal.
