Parsis and the Party
The Gujarat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Valsad-based Dayzad Chothia (pictured) to represent Parsis on their Minority Morcha, noted The Indian Express (IE) on December 9, 2021. Two other "special social conveners,” Bobby Singh
Mendhiratti and Dr Ramesh Niven, have been appointed to represent the Sikh and Christian communities.
Minority Morcha president Dr Mohsin Lokhandwala, who made the announcements on November 29, stated, "There is a perception that Minority Morcha means only Muslims are included. But it is not like that… all other minority communities are included.” Lokhandwala said the "purpose is to expand the organization…and join more and more people with the ideology of nationalism with BJP… to bring those who have remained detached from the party closer,” stated IE.
Thirty-seven-year-old Chothia, who reportedly runs a construction company in his home city was quoted by IE as stating: "My responsibility is to inform people from my community about the (BJP) party and make maximum efforts to join them with the party.” F. J.
