Makeover at Udvada
The possibility of installing escalators on both the platforms at Udvada station is being discussed with the railway authorities, Udvada high priest and member of the National Commission for Minorities Dastur Khurshed Dastoor told Parsiana on November 7, 2018. Also on the cards are a comfortable waiting room and adequate sun-shades.
The height of platform number one, where trains arrive from Bombay has already been raised. Increasing the height of the other platform and the length of other platforms is in process, he said. In September last year, Navsari resident and caretaker at Udvada’s Zoroastrian Information Centre Aspi Sepoy had reportedly fallen from the platform, an accident that had led to both his legs being amputated below the knees (see "The wounds have healed,” Events and Personalities, Parsiana, November 7, 2017).
According to newspaper reports, the Western Railway (WR) has decided to make Parsi culture and heritage the theme of the Udvada railway station. Commenting on the "positive move,” Dastoor was quoted in the Hindustan Times of October 18 as stating, "one has to see the actual implementation of the plan.”

Udvada station, set for upgrade
"The exterior of the station will (portray) Parsi architecture along with traditional art designs,” while "tiles depicting traditional and contemporary designs will be introduced…along with art murals,” said the news report. Traditional furniture, including wooden chairs and tables "like those from the (Iranshah) fire temple” are proposed to be installed in the interiors of the station. Work is expected to be completed by March 2019, according to an unnamed railway official, who stated "the plan for modification and upgradation was raised first by the Parsi community to former union railway minister Suresh Prabhu.”
