Doing up Daman’s bungli

By Farrokh Jijina · May 7, 2018
A "largehearted contribution” of Rs 40 lakhs from industrialist Kairus Dadachanji and his family "in loving memory of his late father Shavak Dadachanji” has enabled the Shree Daman Vapi Parsi Jarthosty Anjuman to rebuild the bungli on its Doongerwadi grounds, notes an email from their president Tehmten Wadia. A jashan led by Dastur Khurshed Dastoor of Udvada and Ervad Noshir Sahiar, panthaky of the Seth Meherwanji Navroji Maneckji Dar-e-meher in Daman, supported by mobeds from Udvada on March 31, 2018 marked the opening of the new bungli. After felicitations to the Dadachanji family and others, the 320 community members present partook of a gahanbar catered by Soonu Kasad of Navsari. Wadia informed Parsiana on April 19 that about 60% of the grounds now have been fenced in with a wall, for which Dadachanji is assisting too.
When the Parsiana representative had visited the Doongerwadi in December 2017, Wadia had shown him around the 18-acre Doongerwadi grounds and the ongoing construction work. Approximately two to three deaths occur annually in Daman-Vapi area, Wadia had stated. The Anjuman has 150 members.
