Madan’s healthcare

Dr Zinobia Mahiar Madan (pictured), a well-known expert in healthcare, who passed away this October 21 was the founder and managing director of ClinOma Healthcare where patients received care and counseling with a scientific and holistic approach. She was honorary consultant — Lifestyle Medicine at the Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre and co-founder of the Jiyo Parsi scheme.
In December 2009 when she met Dr Shernaz Cama at the Ninth World Zoroastrian Congress in Dubai where she presented a paper on "The medical problems concerning the Parsi Community,” they conceptualized a program to solve the declining population trend in the community. This idea was subsequently developed by Parzor and the Ministry of Minority Affairs, resulting in the Jiyo Parsi scheme.
She had garnered more than 20 years of experience through clinical research, new introduction of healthcare products, writing/co-authoring 30 publications, teaching and mentoring. In recognition of her outstanding contribution to the field of medical science and nutrition, she was awarded MNAMS (Membership of the National Academy of Medical Sciences), FIMSA (Fellowship of the International Medical Science Academy) and FICA (Fellowship of the International College of Nutrition). She was also the recipient of the Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award for Innovations in Healthcare and the Jewel of India Award for Landmark Contributions in Healthcare.
After she was awarded a doctorate for her cardiovascular research work at Jaslok, she actively pursued a career in the pharmaceutical industry, in the medical divisions of leading pharmaceutical companies like Abbott and Wockhardt, in areas of clinical research pertaining to several therapeutic areas, pharmacology, nutrition, medicomarketing, regulatory and medical information.
Despite the crippling disabilities she suffered because of Parkinson’s disease, she worked till the end, helping the poor and the suffering. As reminded by her, "How far you go in life depends on your being gentle with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic to the striving, and tolerant of the weak.”
