“Sezdo by non-Parsis”

I endorse Hoshang Bhoot’s letter ("Sezdo by non-Parsis,” Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, June 7, 2017) regarding the folly and idiocy of denying non Parsis the privilege of offering sezdo at the Doongerwadi. This practice is not followed at the Worli Prayer Hall.
This denial at Doongerwadi is based on the irrational belief of defiling the deceased’s soul and obstructing its progress. Can our prayers be rendered totally ineffective by the gaze of a juddin? Certainly not. This denial causes a lot of legitimate heartburn among the juddins, and creates an avoidable divide between us and them — owing to our bigotry.
I am glad to learn that the Delhi and Ooty anjumans have dispensed with this prejudicial practice. So should the other anjumans. B. T. DASTUR
