“Census figures inaccurate?”
I agree with Shireen Bharucha ("Census figures inaccurate?” Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, August 21, 2016). When the census officials came to my place they just did not know what a Parsi or Zoroastrian was. They insisted on marking me and my wife as Hindus. Only after great persuasion did they mark us as Parsi Zoroastrians.
I then contacted all the Parsis in Jabalpur to alert them about this, but it was too late as most of them had already been visited by census officials who marked them as anything but Parsi Zoroastrians.
In future the Government should educate these officials that there does exist a community called Parsi Zoroastrians.

We stand corrected. The late Lt Gen Adi Sethna, president of the Delhi Parsi Anjuman and a member of the National Commission for Minorities, had said the census officials had been sensitized about Parsis.
