Aadhar for three elders

By Sheren Vakil · August 21, 2016
As a special concession to their age and condition, 93-year-old Maj Noshir Kekobad Tarapore (retd) and his sisters Mithoo and Bakhtaver, residents of Dadar Parsi Colony (DPC), were registered for their unique identification Aadhar cards in their home. Aadhar cards now being mandatory for most things, they were at a loss, being unable to leave the house for the registration process due to extreme old age. The army veteran’s wife Rubina approached community activist and vice president South Central District Bombay Congress Party Mehernosh Fitter, also a resident of DPC, for assistance, the latter revealed in a WhatsApp message sent to Parsiana.

He brought the matter to the notice of Kalidas Kolambkar, long-time Member of the Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra, who has retained his seat over seven terms. The senior politician arranged for Avishklar Samajik Pratishtan, a nongovernmental organization, to undertake the registration process at the Tarapore residence on June 17, 2016.
The enumerators made a special home visit along with staff and equipment to register the three elders for their Aadhar card. Fitter acknowledges that he was aided in making this possible by support from former Bombay Parsi Punchayet trustee Arnavaz Mistry and Mehroo Fitter.
