Heerjee to head

By Farrokh Jijina · August 7, 2016
Kaizad Heerjee (pictured), chief executive officer (CEO) of telecommunications company Aircel since end 2013 has emerged as a strong contender to head an entity being planned by combining the wireless operations of Reliance Communications (RCom) with Aircel. Heerjee, who was earlier the chief operating officer of the company, joined Aircel from Malaysian operator U Mobile.
The new entity "could emerge as a strong number four telco (telecommunications company),” according to a report in The Economic Times (ET) of June 28, 2016. Quoting two people familiar with the negotiations, the report stated that Heerjee has been offered a two-year extension on his contract. Heerjee had declined to comment on the matter. Parsiana too received no response to an email sent to him requesting information.
RCom and Aircel have been in exclusive talks since December on a "much anticipated amalgamation in what would be the first in-market telecom merger of national scale,” according to ET. It is expected that the new Rs 40,000 crore entity will remain unlisted in the initial years, and is likely to operate under the name Aircomm, according to the ET report. Both parties are likely to have equal representation on the board and the management will be jointly handled, states the news report.
