Vazifdar recommended
The name of Justice Shiavax Jal Vazifdar (pictured) has been recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium to head the Punjab
and Haryana High Court, reported The Tribune on May 16, 2016. Formerly a judge of the Bombay High Court, Vazifdar was appointed Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on December 16, 2014. While being administered the oath he promised to take all judges along with him in the decision making process. As per The Tribune of December 16, 2014, his assertion was significant as that High Court had been plunged into crises at least three times during the past decade after "outside” chief justices had differences of opinion with other judges.
Vazifdar, who passed out from Rishi Valley School, Andhra Pradesh, in1972 later graduated from St Xavier’s College, Bombay. On completing his LLB from Hinduja Law College in Bombay he enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa in October 1980 and practiced on both original and appellate sides in the Bombay High Court in civil, constitutional, company and arbitration matters. He also appeared in the Supreme Court, High Courts, tribunals and district courts. On January 22, 2001 he was sworn in as Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court. A respected judge, Vazifdar is known for his acumen in dealing with complicated income tax matters, notes The Tribune.
