“Tried and tested”

By Roxan A. Driver · May 7, 2016
"Dream big. Have passion in your heart and persevere till your goal is achieved. Never ever give up. Never ever quit. Where there is a will, there is a way.” This was the message that Zarin Rabadi, principal of the Bai M. N. Gamadia Girls’ High School gave the gathering at the Iran League’s 94th annual day function at Cama Baug on April 16, 2016. As the evening’s chief guest she said that it was at the exams that students are "tried and tested. Those who swim through make their lives successful. Others with excuses lead mediocre lives.”

Recipient of Lions International’s Teacher of the Year Award in 2014-15, Rabadi finished her speech by welcoming more Parsi girls to her school, even offering freeships and scholarships to disadvantaged and deserving Zoroastrian children.
Iran League president Ervad Vispi Dastur said the League has always held an optimistic view of the country, the community, the religion and its people, and especially the youth who are the real trustees of posterity.
Sqn Ldr Minoo Wadia (retd) who was honored with the Maneckji Limji Hataria Heroism Trophy exhorted Zoroastrian youth to "serve the nation with valor and integrity” and to follow the traditions laid down by our ancestors. Decorated with the Vayu Sena Medal in 1972, he saw action in both the 1965 and ’71 wars and has handled dangerous and emergency situations on many occasions, said committee member Pervin Sidhwa.
As guest of honor Armaity Tirandaz, recently elected for her second term as Bombay Parsi Punchayet trustee, assured the community of her continued service.
Roshan Dastoor sang an English song and Hormuzd Karanjia along with Shahzad Faroodi rendered a few couplets from the Shahnameh in both Persian and English. Thirty trophies and 320 prizes were distributed to the winners who had participated in competitions such as Shahnameh recital, essay writing, elocution, religious quiz, drawing, rangoli, singing of Parsi songs and playing music, conducted throughout the year by Rabadi and Wadia.
In his vote of thanks, one of the League’s trustees Sam Choksey commended Dastur’s role in the association. Dastur noted that it is only though "united efforts that good and great deeds are done.”The dinner was catered by Jimmy Gadiwalla.
