By Parinaz Gandhi · March 21, 2015
In recognition of her friendship and work with Albania, Zerbanoo Gifford, founder of the UK based Asha Centre, was presented an award by the deputy prime minister of Albania Niko Peleshi.

For Gifford, going to Albania was a magical experience as it is the homeland of Mother Teresa who had blessed the building of the Asha Centre. At the time of Mother Teresa’s death, Gifford had read her last prayer on television and also made a national appeal that brought in funds for the building of a home for abandoned street children, notes a press release.
Whilst in Tirana, Albania’s capital, Zerbanoo also met Prime Minister Edi Rama and many of the cabinet ministers at the bunker built by the former Fascist dictator Enver Hoxa in the 1970s, a replica of Hitler’s in Berlin. The premises are used as a modern museum as also the meeting place for cabinet ministers.
