Kapadia’s legal battles

By Sherene Vakil · November 7, 2014

Karate exponent Vispy Kapadia’s anticipatory bail application in a case alleging he submitted forged documents to win a Maharashtra state award was rejected by the Sessions Court on October 13, 2014. The Maharashtra Utkrusht Krida Margadarshak Puraskar awardee is facing charges for allegedly submitting nine forged certificates confirming the achievements of his students to bolster his claim for this award for 2008-2009. Kapadia has refuted the charges, claiming that he is being falsely implicated because of infighting between the Maharashtra Karate Association of which he once was president and the All India Karate Do Federation where he has served as vice president, reported Mumbai Mirror (MM) on October 14, 2014. He has also said that he was not the one to deliver the certificates in question to the sports directorate in Poona.
