Video tribute to Khada...

By Sherene Vakil · August 21, 2014
Graphic designer Garima Gupta, 29, who moved to Bombay two years ago from Delhi, has created an animated video of the 40-foot Khada Parsi statue at Byculla as a tribute to this landmark which was commissioned by Manockjee Cursetjee in memory of his father Cursetjee Manockjee. The long neglected statue was recently restored by the Bombay Municipal Corporation and re-opened to the public on June 20, 2014 (see "Splendor of the statue,” Parsiana, August 7, 2014).

"The statues in our city are neglected. I would spot these every day. This is why I have shown a weeping Flora Fountain statue at the start of my video,” Gupta told Mid Day on August 8, 2014. Also shown in a "sad avatar” are the gargoyles at Victoria Terminus railway station, the face on the front of the David Sassoon Library at Kala Ghoda and the figures on the façade of Regal Cinema. Under her Project Bambai, Gupta hopes to make more videos. For this she has been reading about Bombay’s past, mentions the newspaper.
