Summer camp in Surat

By Sherene Vakil · June 21, 2014
Nearly 85 children aged between five and 14 years participated in a two-day Kids Camp organized by the Zoroastrian Women’s Assembly of Surat (ZWAS) on May 10 and 11, 2014. Keeping in mind the overall development of Parsi children, ZWAS ensured that they were occupied from 8.30 a.m. until late evening by arranging religious talks, a visit to Surat’s Kadmi Atash Behram, games, field trips, arts and crafts, dancing, singing, recitation and much more, reveals an email sent by ZWAS trustee Maharukh Chichgar.

On the agenda of the first day was a visit to the fire brigade where the children were thrilled when firemen demonstrated different drills to save people trapped in a fire. This also helped them to realize the valuable service firemen render to society.
May 11 being Mother’s Day, during art class many children created attractive envelopes addressed to their mothers. They were also taught how to make decorative candles. Dancing and personality development sessions followed. The children put up a performance at 7.30 p.m. for their families and others (ZWAS had issued an open invitation to the community to attend) to demonstrate the skills they had learnt during the Camp.
ZWAS expressed gratitude to the donors and sponsors for their contribution and to the helpful trustees of the Surat Parsee Panchayat for use of the premises of the Girls’ Orphanage to conduct the camp as well as to the trustees of the Kadmi Atash Behram for their grounds to hold the evening’s function.
