“Hidden meaning”

With reference to Faribourz Nariman’s letter "Hidden meaning" (Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, August 21, 2012), could you kindly explain what Stot Yasna means and its relevance with our prayers? Many thanks. ARMIN DUTIA MOTASHAW

My letter was in response to that of Vispi Ranji’s ("Hidden meaning," Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, July 7, 2012).

There is something like an accepted code that one who is desirous of obtaining some information on any subject should mention his/her background to facilitate a befitting response. Incidentally, Ranji has adhered to this code in the first para of his inquiry.

Questions pertaining to an article or a letter should be restricted to the matter alluded to or hinted at in the same. Nowhere in Ranji’s inquiry or in my clarification has the term Yasna been mentioned. Thus, to say the least, your letter is startling. If the subject matter of one’s enquiry happens to be religious or socio-religious, it is better if one consults scholar-priests like Dasturs (Dr) Kaikhusroo JamaspAsa and (Dr) Firoze Kotwal.
