Successful swimmer
"Kayan has continued with his swimming and has recently taken part in the season 2012 swim circuit. He has just moved back to India (from Dubai where he was studying) and is now in Class XI in a school in Poona,” says Kayan’s father Kurush Bharucha. "He won multiple medals (four gold and one silver) at the district meet in May and at the Maharashtra state championship in June, he picked up six gold and one silver.” The lad also secured the honor of being crowned "best swimmer – juniors” in Boys Group 1.

Kayan Bharucha: swimming at national level
The following month, at the junior nationals (boys under 17) in Madras, Kayan participated in seven events —five individual and two relays. Success came in the form of a silver and a bronze as a member of the Maharashtra relay squad. Unfortunately an individual medal eluded him as he stood fourth in the 50 m and 100 m backstroke and 200 m freestyle. "Naturally he has gained in confidence with his junior nationals results, both individual and relay,” asserts Kurush. "It is all the more creditable when one considers that he also sat for his ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education) examination in March, securing an impressive 94 percent.” Having relocated to India, Kayan is now "neck deep into a new term and a new academic system altogether — different subjects, ambience, syllabus and new ways of working,” adds Kurush who is with Unilever in Dubai.
