Ringing out the old

Let us welcome 2012 which, on using natural addition, represents the favorable figure five, Labh Pancham in Hindu philosophy. Every period throws up challenges that need to be faced with intelligence and a positive, compromising attitude to get the best results. The figure five also predicts negative influences for those who are arrogant, dogmatic and fanatic, with a Taliban-like attitude that tries to coerce all to follow their fads. Such persons will experience panchang (a cycle of misfortunes).
In this year spiritual influences will show better prospects while negative thinkers and those inconsistent with the facts regarding changing the mindset of the community will not be able to solve anything.
Time is flying fast toward a new age, away from old customs and usages that are now outdated. Traditionalists cannot compel all to follow their dictatorial views. Today we are witnessing gradual changes in the young generation toward beneficial reforms. There is a leaning towards our religion and its tenets, along with the need to preserve our cultural heritage which will help our community progress towards a better future.
Changes in thinking require the backing of the elders to guide the youngsters on the path of righteousness. Unfortunately we have no Lokpal or Anna Hazare in our community to protest against the corrupt attitude of disturbing harmony. Only understanding and compromise will end controversies with more transparency and flexibility to maintain harmony.
We need to increase Ushta-te, the joy of the soul, and share this with all. Let us pray for love, peace, friendship, compassion and forgiveness during this year, and celebrate it with smiles and good cheer.
The truth is always bitter but it is an effective medicine to cure sickness. We are an intelligent community with a proud heritage. With determination we can ring out the old weaknesses and ring in new fervor to find heavenly favor. Parsiana publishes without fear or favor the views of readers without creating ill feelings for anyone. We expect the magazine to serve as a guide to inspire the young generation on the right path and enlighten readers with the torch of Zoroastrian morality.
