ZTFI: Navjotes and more

By Sherene Vakil · February 21, 2012
"Community first” is the catch line of the Zoroastrian Trust Funds of India (ZTFI) which was launched in 2009 for the weal of the community. One such laudable initiative was performing the navjotes of five underprivileged children on January 15, 2012 at the Malcolm Baug grounds in Jogeshwari. Yasmin Mistry, ZTFI trustee informed Parsiana that the event was "organized mainly to make individuals understand our aims and objectives as we try to foster, encourage our youth, provide various kinds of help to (the) poor and needy, to meet, assimilate and strive for a better tomorrow, leading to further prosperity of the community.”
About 1,000 community members attended the initiation ceremony of Jehan, Faredoon and Sanaya Jivasa, Sam Antia and Parizad Patalwalla, which was followed by a fun filled gala evening, details of which were sent to Parsiana by Nevil Zaveri. Bombay Parsi Punchayet trustees Arnavaz Mistry and Muncherji Cama attended, the latter being the chief guest. Enthusiastic participation in the gara contest and dance competition enlivened the occasion. The first prize in the gara contest was won by Nadine Ghadiali, with Roshan Gazder coming second and Dilnavaz Randeria in third place. Fionika Nava was adjudged the best dancer in the contest that followed, the write-up notes.
Yasmin Mistry presented a detailed account of the ZTFI’s activities, while Shiraz Guard, managing committee member, compered the show. The ZTFI’s new Feed a Family program received accolades from community members, generating generous donations for the same. The function was organized by members of the managing committee of ZTFI, all of whom were present at the event, and Maki Majra’s role in taking charge of the new initiates was acknowledged, the write-up mentions. The evening ended with a dinner catered by Tanaz Godiwalla.

The ZTFI helps poorer members of the community by providing them with food grains, distributing books to deserving students, holding medical camps for eye and dental check-ups. It has held a fun camp with training program for the youth at the Marazban Sanatorium in Khandala. In November 2011 ZTFI took 50 deserving senior citizens on a pilgrimage to Udvada, Yasmin Mistry mentions in her letter.
