“Another tragic end”
There is a glaring contradiction in the Bombay Parsi Punchayet’s (BPP) attitude in the matter of Farzin Bejan Batliwala’s death in 2008 and that of her sibling Yazdan in September 2011. Dr Viraf Kapadia had brought this to my notice when Yazdan’s body was consigned at Doongerwadi. The BPP’s contradiction in not performing the final rites for Farzin while doing the same for Yazdan shows its whimsical duplicity and inconsistent behavior.
Kapadia and I were delighted to find that you have written about this matter ("Another tragic end,” Events and Personalities, Parsiana, December 7, 2011) so that readers are enabled to judge for themselves. Thick skins need to be pierced and every Prof Hoshang Moogat who refers to Khojeste Mistree as "our self-proclaimed messiah” contributes to the bruising of a colossal ego ("Entitled to enter?” Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, December 7, 2011).
We are grateful for your appreciation of Kapadia’s significant observation on the mischief that can go unaccounted for if complacency condones the actions of the motley crew at the BPP. They believe they can get away with anything because "we have the people’s mandate to do what we want.” They need to be severely castigated.
