Farewell, Iran Consul General

On the conclusion of his successful four year tenure in Bombay the Consul General for Iran, His Excellency Ali Mohammadi was felicitated by the Indo-Iranian Society at a get together at the Chambers in the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower on September 10, 2011. The hosts for the evening were Nadir Godrej, managing director of Godrej Industries Limited and his wife Rati. President of the Society Minoo Shroff, former chairman of the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) chaired the function which was attended by a number of eminent Parsis, mentions a write-up sent to Parsiana by Godrej Dotivala, secretary general of the Society and public relations officer of the BPP. The highlight of the evening was a poem honoring the Consul General written and read out by Godrej, who is well known for his penchant for rhyming.

Three days later, Mohammadi interacted with the trustees and senior staff of the BPP in the BPP’s board room as well as some leaders of the community who had been invited on the occasion, Dotivala writes. A golden plaque was presented to the departing Consul General by BPP chairman Dinshaw Mehta. A few days later Dotivala received a letter of appreciation from the Consul General, in which Mohammadi acknowledges: "It was the similarities of cultures of India and Iran and friendship and warmth of the people and Parsi community who made me feel India like my homeland in spite of being away from it.”
Dr Meher Master-Moos of the Zoroastrian College in Sanjan also hosted a farewell dinner for the Consul General at the Radio Club on October 8, 2011. Amongst those present were Kersee and Vispi Wadia, founders of the Association for the Revival of Zoroastrianism and advocates Malcolm Bapoo, his wife Divya and Viraf Katrak.
