Denying solace of prayer

My beloved mother, Khorshed (Bubbles) Ghandhi, passed away on June 15, 2011 and was cremated in Bombay in accordance with her wishes. I was appalled that most priests would not be willing to pray at her funeral.

I would like to tell you something about my mother. When we had our navjotes we did not have parties. My mother felt that a navjote is a religious ceremony and the money was donated to educate poor girls. That is the sort of person she was.
Debate about the future of a religion is healthy. However, to deny the solace of prayer to families at a time of such anguish can only be described as cruel and will drive people away. I will always be grateful to the priests in Bombay and London who felt able to pray with us.
