The gracious judge

"The moment sir (Justice Shahrukh Kathawalla) heard that we were stranded, he sent his car and driver for us to be dropped home,” one of the High Court staff members K. P. P. Nair residing in Bandra was quoted in the DNA of May 5, 2010. The disruption in the rail services due to the motormen’s strike in Bombay on the evening of May 4 had inconvenienced lakhs of commuters returning home from work with the other public modes of road transport being over burdened.

Justice Shah-rukh Katha-walla: timely help

"There were blank display screens at the station, no trains and not enough space for even fresh air to pass, let alone a commuter,” Nair explained the scene at the Churchgate railway station before unexpected help arrived from the "very kindhearted” judge. Kathawalla thoughtfully sent his car with the driver so that four members living in the suburbs of Bandra, Borivli and Virar could reach home safely and speedily. "He was so kind that he even invited all of us to stay at his house in case we had problems… but we declined,” conveyed an overwhelmed Nair.
According to the DNA, "A modest Justice Kathawalla declined to comment on his gesture.”
