Silver Star for Tachakra

Prochi Keki Tachakra received the Silver Star, a national award of The Bharat Scouts and Guides, on September 23, 2009 at the Ashoka Hall of the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi at the hands of the President of India Pratibha Patil in recognition of her distinguished and continuous service for 42 years to the movement, Nawaz Marker informed Par-siana via e-mail.
Tachakra (née Dhalla), who joined the Scouts/Guides Movement in 1951 as a Bulbul, became a Guide and qualified as a Ranger on completing the Ranger Star, the highest achievement in this category. As a Leader Trainer (Guides), District Commissioner (Guides) and Guide Captain of Bombay Scottish School in Mahim, she has devoted the better part of her life to molding youth and guiding them through the movement.

The Adult Leader’s Achievement Award from the Asia-Pacific Region of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts came her way in 2007. The Guider is recipient of the Bar to the Medal of Merit and Long Service Awards from the Maharashtra State Bharat Scouts and Guides, writes Marker. Tachakra has met Lady Baden-Powell — wife of the movement’s founder Lord Baden Powell and an active leader herself — on four occasions, including at the opening of Sangam, one of the four world centers of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in Poona. She is also a founder member of Friends of Sangam (Asia-Pacific), the e-mail adds.
