In his sights

A standard 11 student of Hebron School, Ooty, 16-year-old Kynan Chenai of Hyderabad won a gold medal and his first national title at the 51st National Shooting Championship in Jaipur in January. Participating in the shotgun junior (under 21) trap shooting event, Chenai topped the table with a score of 108, a clear five points over his nearest rival Prithviraj of Tamil Nadu, who is on the Indian junior shooting team for international events. "Kynan proved his potential in no uncertain terms,” says his father Darius.

In Kynan’s sights this July is a training stint with Italy’s renowned trap shooting coach Marcello Dradi. When in Hyderabad during his holidays, Kynan trains at the SAAP (Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh) shooting range. "Kynan is passionately fond of guns and shooting and has won many state level medals but this was his first national title,” adds Darius. Kynan has not yet fully decided on a career, but "shooting will definitely be a part of it,” says his father. At the time of going to press, the lad was in Jaipur to take part in an Asian-level competition.
