“A hero ignored”

I refer to the letter of Cdr T. R. Mogul of Bangalore titled "A hero ignored” (Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, August 21, 2008) about the Parsi Chief of Air Staff Fali Major not attending the funeral of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. This matter has also been discussed here at informal meetings of friends, both Parsi and non-Parsi, and there has been no answer about why this should have happened.

The Air Chief Marshal’s response to Mogul is absolutely out of context. He has tactfully omitted answering Mogul’s query about "why a Parsi Chief of Air Staff, with all the assets of the Indian Air Force at him command, could not attend Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw’s funeral despite having all the time to visit Parsi anjumans and associations to collect accolades and mementoes.”

Nor was the editors’ reply very convincing. In fact, there was no need for you to have replied.
