“Eco-friendly disposal”

I was happy when I read that a better system of disposal of the dead is in the offing ("Eco-friendly disposal,” Events and Personalities, Parsiana, August 21, 2007), but was least impressed when I visited the SENREQ website.

The name SENREQ itself, derived from Sustainable Energy Recovery and Environment Quality, suggests that it is more of a commercial undertaking concentrating on recovery of energy from waste. In the US it is also used for the disposal of animal carcasses, as per the company’s statement.

I surely would not like my remains to be used as an input for a supposedly commercial venture.
