C. R. Irani Foundation
Cushrow Rusy Irani was one of the most widely respected journalists in the country and abroad. His death on July 23, 2005 took from our midst a man who earned a reputation as a fearless campaigner for the truth. As editor-in-chief of The Statesman, Irani ensured that the newspaper ceaselessly campaigned for issues of national importance, and strove to set the highest professional standards.

Cushrow Irani: set high standards
To ensure that his ideals are emulated by future journalists his colleagues in The Statesman and his well-wishers have set up the C. R. Irani Foundation. Registered under section 12AA of the Income Tax Act, 1961, the Foundation will take up various activities to improve journalistic standards in the country. The first of these will be to set up a school for print journalism in Calcutta.
Donations to the C. R. Irani Foundation qualify for deduction u/s 80-G of the Income Tax Act, 1961. Donations, by demand draft or crossed cheques and payable to the C. R. Irani Foundation, may be sent C/o The Statesman Ltd, Statesman House, 4, Chowringhee Square, Calcutta 700001.
