“Caught in the crossfire”

I was employed at the Kamal cinema in Ahmedabad when the riots of 2002 occurred following the Godhra train burning incident. Though my salary was just Rs 2,700 I was content and did not seek any financial help at that time.

But after my home was destroyed in the riots and my son Azar went missing (see "Parzania: Caught in the crossfire,” Parsiana, February 7, 2007) the situation changed and I have to take help from others. The Ahmedabad Parsi Panchayat has not allotted a home for my family even though housing is available. So far I have received one lakh from the World Zoroastrian Organisation and Rs 5,000 from the Bharuch Parsi Panchayat.
