Lifetime achievement award

The latest in the quiverful of honors garnered by Dr Cyrus Poonawalla, chairman and managing director of Serum Institute of India, is the lifetime achievement award conferred on him at the Hi-Tech Pune-Maharashtra 2006 conference held in Poona in November. The award is in recognition of Poonawalla’s "commitment for making quality vaccines to protect the underprivileged children of the world at very affordable prices,’’ reports Business India of November 19, 2006. The company’s products are exported to 140 countries worldwide.

Other than his well known passion for breeding race horses at his stud farm in Poona, for the past many years Poonawalla has been among the biggest names in Indian medical circles, mainly because of the company’s achievements in manufacturing and marketing vaccines and sera.
Last year Poona­walla had received the Padma Shri as well as the Sabin Humanitarian Award in the USA
