Milestones
The age of Zoroastrian brides ( as listed in. this issue) ranged between 21 and 49 yars, the arithmetic mean (the total number of individual ages divided by the total number ofbrides) being 30 years. The corresponding figures for the grooms were 24 and 43 years, averaging at 32 years.
Of the 42 Zoroastrians who breathed their last, 17 succumbed to heart disease ( nine being over 80 years). Cancer claimed six lives. Five patients each died due to pneumonia/lung disease and septicemia and two to diabetes. Kidney failure, brain disease, paralysis, asthma, old age/ general debility ai1d Parkinson's disease were the isolated cases registered. One cause of death was kept pending. Theagerangefluctuated between 52 and 93 years. The Zoroastrian lite expectancy at birth for June 1-15, 2006, in Bombay, was 79 years.
The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from info1·rnation supplied by various newsletters and anjumans in India and abroad, courts . and hospitals. This info1111ation is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anjumans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by two hospitals - births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us info1n1ation together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. In the breakup of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
If readers have filly births/marriages/deaths theywo11ld like published, some proof to ensure the veracity of the report would be required. We are sure our readers would appreciate this requirement a!ld cooperate with us.
