A’bad’s unsung heroes

In appreciation of their "silent, dedicated and untiring social service to our humdins (community members) and mankind at large," a few Parsi unsung heroes of Alunedabad were felicitated at a function commemorating the l0th death anniversary of Roda Savak Mohudawala on May 21, 2006. The trustees of the Roda Savak Mohudawala Charitable Trust (RSMCTJ selected Naju Dalal, Zarin Cambatta, Minni Patel, Hutoxi Daruwala and Tehmas Commissariat as the "unsung heroes" each of whom was presented a memento, shawl and a bouquet offlowers by chief guest K. J. Shethna, senior advo­cate of the Gujarat High Court, notes a press release.
In his welcome address trustee Porns Karanjawalla outlined the activities of RSMCT which included distribution of food grains to around 65 households in Ahmedabad, and notebooks to around 35 Parsi households at the start of the academic year. In addition they give loans for higher education as also for entrepreneurship and medical causes.
Among the new facilities introduced by ,the Trust is the availability of a vehicle from Medora Travels at the Trust's expense for auspicious occasions or unto­ward happenings in the family. Upcom­ing and talented sportspersons from the community, preferably from Ahmeda­bad, will be given financial assistance for their training or for the purchase of superior quality equipment. Karanja­walla also mentioned that from the funds donated by the Mohudawala couple to the Ahmedabad Parsi Panchayat (APP) they were able to build the Mohudawala Mansion at Doongerwadi, distribute food grains, give education aid and loans for cottage industries, as also host a community dinner every year.
The trustees of the Zoroastrian Hall were thanked for their cooperation and so also the youth who rendered help in the organization of the function and the nearly 550 community members who had gathered on the occasion for the felicitation and the dinner that followed.
