“Searching J. M. Marker”
The late J. M. Marker ("Searching J. M. Marker,” Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, July 21, 2005) succeeded in beating Gilbert Browne of Prince’s Club by five games to one. The crack Parsi player — with his fast, heavily cut service-fore-handed from both sides — quickly put an opponent on the defensive, while his quickness of foot and his resourcefulness in difficulties stamped him as the greatest player India has ever seen. No one has equaled him in his ability to knock the cover off the ball.
