Dramatic support
Performing plays for different institutions and charitable causes for the last 48 years, Surat’s Yazdi Karanjia Group was invited to the USA and Canada in May-June 2005 where they performed shows at Richmond, Atlanta, Nashville, Florida, Toronto, Boston, New York and Pennsylvania, notes a press release.
Their performance of the comedy Kutrani Punchhdi Vaanki for the Ontario Zoroastrian Community Foundation helped the association raise nearly $ 20,000 for their upcoming darbe mehr and community center, it was reported in the Mississauga based India Journal of June 24, 2005. Appreciating their cause Karan-jia announced that his troupe would forfeit their day’s earnings and contribute them to the Foundation too. According to a summary of the proceedings by Firoz Khan, the 500 plus audience comprising all communities would burst into laughter with each and every dialog.

As Karanjia had then conveyed, "So far over a hundred shows of this drama have been performed not only in different cities in India but also Singapore, England and USA. This is the first time we have come to Canada. I must thank Ravi Chaudhri of Bollywood Talent and Entertainment Inc who brought us over here.” Karanjia’s group includes his wife Vira and their children, brother Mehernosh and his wife Perin, and his best friend Jal Langadawala. A chartered accountant by profession who runs his private school at Surat teaching accounts and finance, Karanjia explained that like him the other members of the troupe too are not professional actors but have taken to the stage as a hobby.
