Recycling envelopes

To conserve natural resources many people resort to using the blank back side of printed sheets that are no longer required. Mahatma Gandhi used to cut open used envelopes and use the paper for writing.

Vyarawalla: role model

But the remarkable nonagenarian photographer Homai Vyarawalla goes one step further. She takes used envelopes, reconstructs them inside out and uses them to mail letters (Parsiana saw one addressed to Dr Shernaz Cama of PARZOR in Delhi).

As her film and book biographer Sabeena Gadihoke noted in her talk at the National Centre for the Performing Arts PARZOR function in October 2003, Vyarawalla would scold her if she wasted anything.

Truly a role model to emulate.
