New consul general

To felicitate Cyrus Jamshed Guzder on his appointment as the new honorary consul general of Ireland in Bombay, the ambassador of Ireland in India Philip McDonagh hosted a reception at the Regal Room, Oberoi Towers on March 15, 2003. The function also marked the celebration of St Patrick’s Day (which falls officially on March 17). Guzder had taken over on January 7 from the ailing and long-serving consul R. W. Leybourne Cal­­lag­han who passed away on March 9.
Cambridge-educated Guz­der is the chairman and managing director of the well-established freight forwarding, logistics and express courier service company AFL Private Limited (formerly Airfreight Limited), with an international express business in joint venture with DHL International. Guzder is also chairman of leading corporate travel management company Carlson Wagon­lit Travel India. With combined group sales of Rs 1,000 crore and 2,500 employees, the conglomerate has 100 offices across India, according to company sources.

On the board of directors of several corporates, Guzder is chairman of the CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) national committee on civil aviation and has held a wide range of posts in the fields of air cargo and travel since 1977. As trustee of the Prince of Wales Museum, the Bombay Environmental Action Group, Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage UK Trust and member of the Bombay Municipal Corporation’s Heritage Conservation Com­mittee, Guzder is an energetic crusader for the preservation of environment and heritage.
