“Show of solidarity”
Normally, I would have not considered it worthwhile to comment on articles like "Show of solidarity,” (Events and Personalities, Parsiana, September 2002) aimed at self aggrandization of a few, but for the fact that my name was unnecessarily drawn in.
I had sent out an appeal dated July 5, 2002 to Bangalore Parsi Zoroastrian Anjuman (BPZA) members that there was no justification to call a special general meeting when by their own submission the requisitionists admitted that 99 percent of Parsis of Bangalore have shown their "disgust” to the anonymous letters. Besides, there is no assurance that the phantom writers will not strike again and continue their nefarious activities to expose the alleged misdeeds of the persons mentioned in these letters, even after passing a resolution condemning such letters. The BPZA and the members mentioned in these letters will lower their dignity in the eyes of the local members and other anjumans, I had maintained.
Ignoring my advice, a few sycophants succeeded in persuading the trustees to call a special general meeting on July 12, 2002 when 80 members out of a total strength of 246 members attended. The resolution was passed by a majority with two members voting against and not by abstention, as stated. The meeting was immediately followed by another meeting to felicitate our young outgoing panthaky Burjor Aibada (who had put in his resignation) just two days prior to his departure from Bangalore. These meetings were followed by a non-contributory free dinner.
