Select secretaries

At the Eighth DHL-NIPS (National Institute of Professional Secretaries) All India Secretary of the Year Contest on July 27, 2002, Yasmin Bhadha became the first Parsi from Bombay (and the second Bombayite) to be declared the second runner-up at the all-India level and the first runner-up at the Bombay region level. The winner and first runner-up of each of the seven NIPS chapters participate at the all-India level. The national winner then competes in a similar contest at the Asian level.
Another Zoroastrian to win acclaim at the Bombay regional level was Pervin Shaw who was declared the second runner-up. Shaw has been a secretary with Novartis Enterprises for the last 29 years, mentions The Indian Express of August 8, 2002.
Executive secretary to the managing director of Heinz India Private Limited, Bhadha was among the 25-30 contestants shortlisted for the written test from all those who had sent in their bio data as per the format specified by NIPS. Based on their written performance where general knowledge, understanding of their corporate profile and English skills are put to test, the choice was narrowed down to 18 who were selected for the group discussion and personal interview round. Six finalists are then chosen for each of the seven chapters — the winner, first runner-up, second runner-up and three others.

If not, why single out secretaries?” At this point the audience gave her an impromptu applause, giving her the necessary boost. Her point was well taken not just by the audience but even by the panel of judges comprising Prem J. Kamath, head — management resources India, Hindustan Lever Limited, Kiran Nanda, chief economist — Gujarat Ambuja Cement Limited and Sonu Kripalani, general manager — sales (western India) of Jet Airways.
Amongst the audience were her father Minoo Khambatta, husband Khushroo and mother-in-law Dolly cheering and supporting the relaxed and confident Yasmin. "It was a very interesting and enriching experience. Being the second runner-up at the all-India level is an achievement I certainly am proud of,” notes Bhadha to whom a secretary’s "job is like any other. The difference is that as secretary one manages not only one’s own work but also the boss’ work.” As a winner she took home cash prizes plus kitchen accessories, clocks, dinner coupons, assorted hampers...
